High-speed rail in Canada will take more than tracks and trains. It will take people, materials, technology and expertise from across the country. For businesses, that means a rare chance to help build one of the largest infrastructure projects Canada has seen in decades.
What Has Been Launched
On June 23, 2026, Cadence, Alto’s partner, launched a market engagement process for Canada’s high-speed rail network, a significant milestone that opens the door to meaningful economic opportunities for Canadian businesses and workers.
As part of this process, Cadence will present the proposed early procurement activities, aniticipated work packages and timelines for the first phase of construction between Ottawa and Montreal. It is designed to give industry time to prepare ahead of formal procurement, while helping Alto and Cadence identify the potential companies that can help design, build and supply different parts of the future network.
What Comes Next
Canadian and international companies can engage directly with Cadence at upcoming information sessions in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal this July. This is a chance to learn more about the process, ask questions and better understand how they may be able to contribute to the project.
An expression of interest process will follow, inviting companies to formally indicate their interest in delivering the project’s most significant components.
The Scale of the Opportunity
With 1,000 kilometres of track, hundreds of bridges, major tunnels and seven brand new stations to build, Alto will create demand across the economy. Companies across many sectors will be needed, including engineering, construction, technology, skilled trades and local suppliers, meaning opportunities for businesses of all sizes.
As Alto prepares for a 2029 construction start on the first phase of the project, more opportunities will continue to open through the formal procurement process across 2026, 2027 and beyond.
