Each major project begins with a conversation
Alto will provide a fast, reliable and frequent high-speed rail network between Ontario and Québec and will transform travel between Toronto and Québec City, through Peterborough, Ottawa, Montréal, Laval and Trois-Rivières.
By 2055, it is estimated that over 24 million travellers will benefit from this service to travel efficiently in the Toronto–Québec City corridor.
A project of this scale and magnitude must reflect the aspirations and needs of the communities it serves. That’s why Alto will meet with you in an initial round of public consultations starting in January 2026. Our team is set to travel across Ontario and Québec to hear and understand what you have to say, and engage in dialogue.
What is a public consultation?
A public consultation is a special forum for discussions between decision-makers—be they a government or an organization—and citizens. It’s an opportunity to learn about a project, ask questions and share ideas.
Through this process, the organization listens to your views, ideas and concerns before making final decisions. This dialogue leads to better findings and maximizes benefits for communities.
In short, public consultations are where ideas turn into concrete plans, and where Canadians help shape the future of their communities.
At Alto, public consultations aim to inform the analysis being conducted by experts to ensure the most harmonious integration possible of the high-speed train network within living environments. It will also enable us to reinforce mitigation measures—including environmental ones—and much more.
Your feedback is important, as it’s an opportunity to make your voice heard and influence the project.
How can I take part in a public consultation on the high-speed rail project?
We want to ensure all interested parties have access to such public consultations. That’s why we are increasing the ways we meet with you so that it’s easy to take part in this process:
- Alto open houses: immersive open-house events to learn about the project, meet our experts and connect with our teams.
- Virtual information sessions: interactive online open-house events available wherever you want.
- Online consultation platform: a digital space where you can access all the documentation available on the high-speed rail network project and submit your written feedback.
- Round tables: focused discussions with civil society representatives to explore specific aspects of the project and provide informed recommendations. These promote a balanced dialogue where every voice counts.
They bring together a wide variety of stakeholders, each specifically invited:
- Citizens concerned by the project
- Technical and environmental experts
- Elected and institutional representatives
- Economic and community players
