At Alto, we understand that all forms of transportation generate some level of noise and vibration, and high-speed rail is no exception. As we move forward with building our network, noise levels are being carefully considered with a focus on minimizing potential impacts.
At this early stage, it’s not yet possible to define specific noise or vibration levels, since these impacts can vary depending on location and landscape, train speed and technology. Other relevant factors, such as varying train speed will affect noise levels. As an example, the train would be travelling more slowly when entering a city.
What we’re doing
Ongoing field studies are helping establish current baseline noise levels, with more data collection planned as route options are refined. Right from the start, Alto has been working closely with Cadence and its engineering partners to integrate noise and vibration mitigation solutions tailored to each location. Potential solutions may include continuously welded rail, sound walls, or specialized vibration control systems, with the intent of meeting or surpassing applicable regulatory requirements.
Equally important, Alto is committed to open, ongoing collaboration with local communities. By listening to concerns early and throughout the design process, our team aims to identify potential impacts and address them thoughtfully through project design and targeted mitigation measures.
